Upgraded Austin Schools Ring in the School Year
A big part of the civil work we do at Civilitude includes working on schools within Austin, Round Rock, and San Marcos school districts. With the starting up of school for the year happening the past few weeks, that got us reflecting on the recent school openings that we played a part in. We were especially excited to work on the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders, Eastside Memorial High School, and LASA, which received some major upgrades.
Up first: the Ann Richards School for Young Women Leaders. Since 2018 the school has been under construction in a multi-phase breakdown. Classes remained active on the site while parts of the building were demolished, re-designed, and re-built. On top of that, the the parking lots, fire lane, and surrounding ponds were all re-vamped. A new track and field is also still under construction. Those are some lucky girls entering this 2022 school year!
The new Eastside Memorial High School [above] was also a fantastic project to get to work on. Their entirely new school holds more importance than just fresh hallways and lockers. It was constructed on the site of the historical L.C. Anderson High School, the segregation-era school that was a source of neighborhood pride and community before closing in 1971 when integration of public schools was federally mandated. The design of the new school honors the legacy of L.C. Anderson and all that it entailed for the community. Lastly, the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) school was relocated, oddly enough, to the old Eastside High School site. It received some big refurbishments and all of the students are now happily (or reluctantly) settled into their new classrooms. Fayez’s daughter Hayah is currently attending LASA as a sophomore, and she reported back to us on the state of the new school. According to her, the sidewalks are looking good. That’s civil, people! As long as the students are happy while walking, then we’re happy. That about concludes the new schools for the 2022 school year that Civilitude was a part of. It’s been fun! Now moving on to schools for 2023!
