Reflections on AIA Austin’s Urban Design Luncheon: A Vision for Austin’s Light Rail
On October 31, Civilitude had the honor of sponsoring AIA Austin’s Urban Design Committee luncheon, where Austin’s light rail future took center stage. Leaders from Austin Transit Partnership (ATP), including Peter Mullan, Lindsay Wood, and Lisa Storer, shared their insights on designing a human-centered, performance-based transit system. Moderated by Meg Merritt, a national expert on urban mobility, the event highlighted ATP’s commitment to an accessible and innovative light rail for Austin’s growing community.
The panel covered ATP’s integrated approach to building a sustainable transit network that will not only move people but also connect neighborhoods and foster vibrant public spaces. With a focus on the needs of pedestrians, bikers, and drivers, ATP’s design emphasizes both accessibility and resilience. The project represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape Austin’s infrastructure around people, aiming to balance efficient design with the city’s unique character and natural environment.
Civilitude has proudly contributed to Austin’s growth with numerous projects located along the light rail route, supporting the region’s vision for integrated, community-focused transit. To explore more of our work, please visit our project Map for details.
We were inspired to see so many experts collaborating on such a visionary project and appreciated the in-depth look into Austin’s 50-year transportation outlook. AIA Austin, along with the panelists, provided an invaluable platform for dialogue on the importance of thoughtful, community-centered urban planning. As a proud sponsor, Civilitude is excited to support ATP’s goals and contribute to shaping Austin’s future.
