Why Investing in Our Interns is Important
Here at Civilitude, we highly value our interns and take pride in the way we teach them the ins and outs of land development. The process of designing and drafting for our various projects requires a team effort, and our interns are a huge part of that. One of our principal engineers, Mike Reyes, said “the interns are a vital extension of the team…they help keep us motivated and sharp by asking questions and completing tasks quickly.” Interns generally start out helping us with feasibility projects and are gradually integrated into assisting with more complex tasks.
We believe that something that makes Civilitude unique is the way we not only value our interns, but each and every member of our team. Individual growth is one of our top priorities! Through our internship program, engineering students are taught tasks and skill not typically taught in the classroom such as local development codes & regulations, legal regulations & documents, and permitting & submittal requirements. Another current intern, Graciella Homan, said that she has “really enjoyed learning how to read site development plans and getting to interact with other fields such as geology and geophysics.”
Interns are involved in our daily staff zoom meetings and get to work directly with our principal engineers. Kimberlee Michaelis, one of our current summer interns, said she enjoys working at Civilitude because “the environment is very welcoming among all of the staff members.” As a small firm of about 20 full-time staff members, we enjoy getting to know interns and integrating them into our close-knit family! At the end of the day, we invest in our interns because we value their work, we care about our community, and we enjoy having them around! To past and present interns– thank you for all that you do!
