A Family Affair: Baking for Social Change!
Something you should know about Civilitude’s CEO Fayez Kazi is that he’s a big family man–and that he and his family are a socially-driven bunch (but they wouldn’t tell you that)! Fayez and his wife Kaamileh have 3 beautiful and intelligent daughters–Jazaa, Hayah, and Aziza–who are, on top of the beauty and intelligence, humanitarians! After a family conversation about racial bias, police brutality, health disparities and the failure of the justice system, the girls became fired up and decided to take action. For the past few months they have baked up a huge number of tasty desserts and sold them to the community, with 100% of the profits going to a handful of different charities. So far, they have raised $805 for GirlForward, an organization dedicated to creating and enhancing opportunities for girls who have been displaced globally by conflict and persecution, as well as $2300 for 3 other organizations– Measure, Muslim Space, and African American Youth Harvest. Their goal is $5,000 by the end of 2020, and they’re only $1,880 away!
Their charity, “Done.” was created out of these girls’ refusal to sit back and wait for meaningful change to happen in their community. They were done waiting and done hoping. They’re showing us what it truly means to be an active community member, no matter your age. We are so proud and constantly inspired by these girls, and their pastries are seriously delicious, too! So head over to their facebook page here to stay updated on their baking sales, you won’t regret it!
